Jacob Cats (1577-1660)
Jacob Cats (Brouwershaven, 10 november 1577 - Den Haag, 12 september 1660) was een Nederlands dichter, jurist en politicus. Hij werd advocaat en vestigde zich in Middelburg. Hij trouwde met de Vlaamse Elisabeth van Valckenburg. Cats wordt ook wel devolksdichter van Nederland genoemd. Zijn gedichten hebben vaak een opvoedkundig karakter, daarom wordt hij ook vaak Vadertje Cats genoemd. Zijn laatste jaren bracht hij door op Sorgh-vliet, het huis dat nu gebruikt wordt als ambtswoning van de minister- president, het Catshuis te Den Haag.
